This interview made my week. Why?
Well, I’m going to be honest: for a few months I haven’t been feeling like much of an author and certainly not like much of a writer. I haven’t posted here in a while, and since the school year started in September, I haven’t done much writing. (I will blog about that later — I’ve been struggling with how to present my dilemma here.)
Being asked to talk about my work in an interview made me feel a lot better about my writing and about my career as an author in general. So check it out, and thank you, Jason, for interviewing me.
It’s a hard thing to sustain, isn’t it? The whole Marketing Your Book and Branding Yourself can only take you so far and then there is nothing new to talk about and nothing else to do but to write the next one. Only well, you have sort of forgot all you knew and you certainly had never learned how to do it with an audience like you have now.
I miss the days when there were only like 12 authors and therefor no need to publicize and so you could lock yourself away and just write and write and write. Surely there were those days, yes?
I wonder if those days ever existed. I bet all old writers were plagued by fears that they’d never publish again, or that no one was reading them. It might have been worse in some ways. We at least know about our sales and who is reading our work. It is hard to keep marketing, though. Definitely it is. And not always fun. But it’s worth doing. I just haven’t been able to do it as much as I should lately.
